Ad demand is rising faster than audiences on Meta and Reddit, a warning that cheaper reach will get harder to find. Google, meanwhile, has opened another route for matching ad clicks to sales that happen later. Today’s budget question is whether your tracking can identify profitable customers before the platforms absorb more spend.
Meta’s ad engine raises the price of standing still
Meta collected $59.4 billion from advertising in the second quarter, 27% more than a year earlier. Its July 29 earnings release also shows that ad impressions, the number of times ads appeared, rose 12%, while the average price per ad increased 13%.
That split matters more than the headline. Meta created more advertising space and still charged more for it. Advertiser demand outran supply. If your sales conversion rate stays flat, a higher price for the same exposure pushes up customer acquisition cost (CAC), what you spend to win one new customer.
The pressure is uneven. Meta said ad prices rose 18% in the United States and Canada, compared with 9% worldwide excluding those markets. Businesses buying heavily in North America should treat a steady cost per lead as a weaker result if fewer of those leads become customers. Our analysis of rising Meta ad costs explains why the sale, rather than the cheap click, has to set the ceiling.
Your move
Reddit turns growing ad demand into a pricing signal
Reddit’s advertising revenue reached $762 million in the quarter ended June 30, up 64% year over year. The company’s July 30 results put daily active unique users, its count of identifiable daily visitors, at 130.3 million, up 18%.
Advertising revenue grew more than three times as fast as the daily audience. Reddit says both higher prices and more ad impressions drove the gain. That does not prove every advertiser paid 64% more. It does show a marketplace monetizing each visitor harder, which usually leaves less room for sloppy targeting as competition matures.
The operator read is narrow: test Reddit only where a relevant community already discusses the buying problem. Broad reach can make a low cost per click look attractive while producing little pipeline. Track qualified leads and sales by source, then compare Reddit with the same profit test used for other paid-ad budget controls. A new channel earns more budget only after the later sales stages agree with the ad dashboard.
Google recovers sales that lose their click label
Google published a new setup guide on July 30 for importing offline sales with GBRAID, a privacy-preserving code attached to some ad clicks. The Google Ads documentation says the code can help when the usual Google Click ID is lost, including journeys that move from a website into an app.
This is plumbing with a revenue consequence. A business may pay for an ad, capture the inquiry, close the sale by phone, and then fail to send that outcome back to Google. Automated bidding then learns from the easy form fill instead of the valuable customer. GBRAID gives the account another signal when that trail breaks.
Google says businesses must capture the code from the landing-page address, store it with the lead, and include it in the later conversion upload. It is case-sensitive. Owners do not need to write that code themselves, but they should ask whoever manages the website and customer relationship management system (CRM), the software that stores leads and follow-up, whether the field survives from click to sale. Our speed-to-lead pipeline guide shows where source data commonly disappears during handoff.
What to watch
- Meta expects third-quarter revenue of $61 billion to $64 billion. More auction demand would keep pressure on North American ad prices.
- Reddit said US daily users rose 6% year over year, far behind its 28% international growth. Geography will matter when advertisers judge available reach.
- Google advises monitoring budgets and targets for several conversion cycles after adding GBRAID. A sudden reporting lift is not permission to raise spend on day one.
